The Most Common Backswing Flaw
November 30, 2007
One of the most confusing terms in golf instruction is “shoulder turn”. Personally, I believe that instructors that talk about shoulder turn to describe the amount of turn during the backswing are hurting their students.
To explain why I feel this way, I will ask you to try a little experiment.
Reach both arms in front of your body and take your right hand and grab your left wrist. Now, without turning your chest, pull your left arm across your chest with your right hand until your left arm is pointing to your right.
Notice how far your left shoulder moved. If your shoulders do this during your backswing and you think you are turning, this is the root of your backswing maladies.
For the club face to come back to the ball square and centered, the geometry and relationship of the arms and upper body cannot change during the swing. Doing this experiment, you see that what might look like a backswing to many golfers, but is actually a major change in the arms/body geometry which can result in a whole slew of wild shots depending on what else the golfer tries to compensate.

7 Keys to Running Improvement - Part 1
by: Liam Cain
The number one key to improvement is: Motivation! Sounds simple and it is. Think about it you really have to be motivated to get up on a cold morning and run. You have to be motivated to stick with your training plan. This enables you to hit the second key to improvement: Consistency! Regular, relatively injury and illness free training over many months and years produces results - that’s a fact! All the successful athletes we have ever met, worked with or coached have these two keys: Motivation and Consistency in abundance.
Let’s explore Motivation a little deeper. I don’t care how good you are, how much you love it, sometimes we all go through patches were things aren’t clicking or there is no buzz from the thing we like doing best - running.
This is a good time to read a book from an inspirational athlete or role model! One of our favourites is Running My Way by Harry Wilson.

Roulette For Beginners
by: Wes Young
If you aren’t a roulette player, but have walked past a busy roulette wheel in a casino, you may have wondered what all the excitement and commotion was. There is definitely something almost magical and mesmerizing about the spinning wheel and sound of the Ivory ball clinking around and finally settling into one of the pockets. Here is an introduction to the game of roulette for new players.
There are two different types of popular roulette wheels. The most common wheel in the United States is a double zero wheel called American roulette. The American roulette wheel contains the numbers 1 through 36, a 0 and a 00. This creates a house edge of over 5%. The wheel that is most common worldwide is a single zero wheel that is usually called a European roulette wheel. They contain a 0 and the numbers 1 through 36. The house edge on a European wheel is about 2.5%.
You can place a wide range of bets on each roulette spin, offering a wide range of payouts. Here are the most common bets and payouts.

Hogans Real Golf Secret
November 27, 2007
Ben Hogan’s secret was his extraordinary ability to focus. This was not a gift from heaven. No, Hogan spent long hours perfecting his focus technique.
Robert DeLeon, my mentor and a golf biomechanics instructor, grew up in Austin Texas. Besides taking lessons from Harvey Penick, he had the opportunity as a kid to sit and watch Hogan practice. Hogan would take hours to hit just forty balls. He would hit a ball and spend a few minutes to rewind the shot in his mind and go over every aspect of it. Before he hit the next ball he knew everything he did right and wrong with that shot and was ready to hit the next one even better.
Hogan fine tuned every swing until it was perfect. He didn’t want any bad swings to creep into his system and create any bad habits. His swing is not one to emulate unless you are built like him, but his methods will make any golfer strike the ball well.

Classifications of Poker Players
by: Ryan Tenney
I’ve got a confession to make. I like playing poker. When you are playing online poker, you will generally notice several different types of poker players. Knowledge of different poker playing styles should lead you to an adjustment of your poker game. Generally, some players you may want to attack right off the bat, others you may want to leave alone. Here are some of the different players’ styles:
Loose
The loose player is someone you need to watch out for. They are characterized by their inexperience and usually play a lot of hands. Seemingly, the loose player is always in the thick of the poker game. Even with a poor hand, he will play until the very end of the game hoping to get some luck with his cards. If you play very aggressive with decent cards, exploiting a loose player shouldn’t be that difficult. Most likely, a loose player will likely reward your efforts.

How to play Sudoku and Win!
by: Allison Thompson
Sudoku has become one of the hottest new games around, not only in the UK but also across the world.
This Japanese number game, which came to prominence in the mid 1980’s, has suddenly found a new following in the last few months.
The rules of the game are very simple, all you have to do is complete each grid using the numbers 1-9 in each one and ensuring that the grids next to it do not have the same numbers in the same rows.
But why has Sudoku become such addictive game? It is probably because people are enjoying the challenge of trying to find the right matches and completing the puzzle.
Many people find that both by trial and error and having a pre-planned strategy with the assistance of the clues provided they are able to successfully complete the game.
If you should find that you are having difficulties with the harder levels, then you can always return to the easier ones, which is one of the benefits of this game. Thus providing you with a clearer understanding of how the game works and what are the best strategies for you to use.
All Time Greatest Club Breaking Events in History? and the Winner is?..
November 25, 2007
Two both famous and infamous golfers known for their tempers and club throwing exploits on the golf course, were battling head to head and coming into the final round of the tournament. The entire golfing world was looking on. As the two greats made one bad shot after another, they all too often followed them up by throwing their clubs. Some of these clubs ended up in the lake or against a tree. As they were preparing for the final round, one of them was asked whom he thought was going to "lose". "That’s easy," he said, "the guy that runs out of clubs first."
Everyone that plays this game has been tempted to make their own entry into the club toss championship, and all too many of us have given in to that temptation. But I can’t believe how many clubs I have broken by pure accident (yeah right)!
The first really expensive golf club I ever bought was a custom made driver by one of the great master club makers in Carmel, California, home of Pebble Beach. I spent a couple of days of my vacation being fitted and for three weeks waited anxiously for my new club to arrive in the mail. Man was it great! I was just pounding the ball to deepest depths of the driving range and just couldn’t wait for Saturday to get here so I could unleash this beauty in real action.
3 Benefits Of Home Tanning Beds

3 Benefits Of Home Tanning Beds
by: Ciara McNamara
Some people love the idea of owning tanning beds. A bed in your home will allow you to tan whenever you want, day or night. You won’t have to drive across town or rush to get to the salon before they close. Although they can be expensive, if you tan regularly, the investment may be well worth the money in the long run.
3 Things to Look for in Tanning Beds
The Style of the Bed
You basically have two choices in the style of your bed: a traditional horizontal bed and a standing booth. Unless you have a room or large space to devote to a horizontal bed, you may want to consider a standing booth. These take up less space in your home and can be placed in a corner. Basically, your preference and the amount of space you have available will dictate this choice.
The Bulbs Used in the Bed
The type of tanning bed bulbs used in a bed are the most important feature. Beds use either UVA and UVB rays or UVA only. There is controversy over which bulbs are safer for your skin. There really is no safe way to tan, and you should take precautions to protect yourself from damage to your skin, regardless of the bulbs used.

Digital Scouting Cameras: One Year of Testing
by: John Cook
It has been a year since I decided to test and review digital scouting cameras. Through doing these tests I’d hoped to give hunters some good information that would help them as they shopped for a digital scouting camera of their own. I think I have accomplished this and fortunately for me, I’ve had a lot of fun doing the tests.
I’m not sure exactly how many pictures I’ve taken but it is over 10,000. I received the first bobcat picture in the last batch and have yet to get a picture of a coyote, but sooner or later I’ll get one. It’s still exciting to get each group of pictures.
So far I have used eleven digital scouting cameras and am currently trying to decide which one I will try next. There are still plenty to choose from.
What have I learned over the past year?
For the most part you get what you pay for. Although there are some expensive cameras in the $300 plus range that aren’t much better than the cheaper ones there aren’t any in the under $200 range that come close to those in the $400 plus range.
Purpose Driven Golf
November 22, 2007
I want you to meditate on a couple points for a moment:
1. Why an earth are you playing golf?
2. What are you getting out of each round?
3. What is the point?
Have you ever thought about any of these points before??
Here is an excerpt from “The Dave Way”… if you already own “The Dave Way” please read this one more time to get a few ideas of why you are on the course every weekend.
Pride
It’s almost like a proud parent raising a child successfully. You start out hardly knowing anything about the game. Your scores are usually horrible (in my case around 125) and your swing mechanics are usually pathetic. Your shot making is non-existent and your drives are short and very unimpressive.
And then, round after round (and after many nights and $’s spent at the practice range) you slowly start to improve. I remember the first day I broke 100 - and then the first day I broke 90 - and then the first day I broke 80… few feelings in the world come close.
