Preventing Marine Theft
by: Patrick Altoft
Theft of equipment from boats, trailers, outboard engines and even entire boats is still all too common, but there are many ways to minimise the risk to you.
Your insurance policy may list certain requirements, so check your policy carefully.
Thieves are looking for easy targets, so look for ways to make their task more difficult. Consider any measure to delay the thief, measures that will cause a disturbance or any measure that will later identify the equipment as having been stolen.
Mark your equipment with your postcode, name or the boat’s name/sail number. Consider using visible markings, hidden markings, or both.
Lock trailers, using wheel-clamps, hitch-locks, even a padlock and chain around an immovable object. Use good quality locks and don’t leave the key with the boat!
Outboard engines should be locked to the boat, using special clamping locks. Alternatively remove the engine and place in locked storage.
Keep loose equipment out of sight or better still, take it home with you.
Consider an alarm system for larger boats

Taking Great Landscape Shots
by: Peter Horner
Whether captured on canvas with paint or on film with a camera, landscapes have always been a great artistic theme. We will always be inspired by the colour and infinite variety of nature and the landscapes around us. This article gives you useful tips for creating impressive landscape photographs, and you’ll learn how to make your pictures more striking.
Capturing the moment
Photography is about freezing a moment in time. You must make the most of the time that you have whilst you are out taking photos. If the weather is not right, use the time to explore the area, assess good viewpoints and work out what time of day will work best for the shot. Using a compass is invaluable in determining where the sun sets or rises, but remember that this changes with the seasons. Preparation and planning will help you to capture a successful photograph.
Composition
Keeping it simple and not cluttering the shot with too many elements is a good rule. By removing distractions from your photographs will help bring more prominence to your subject. It is also important to include some form of foreground interest, which may be your subject or it could be used to draw the eye towards the subject.
Will A Night Golf Tournament Ruin Your Course?
February 28, 2008
The first thing you have to remember about your Night Golf event is that it is not a PGA Major event. It is simply a different way to play golf than you normally do. With that in mind, how you set up your course is up to YOU! Some ideas include:
? Move your tees ? use an area normally not used for your tee box. Move it to a patch of grass in front of the normal tee, to the left or right of the forward tees ? anywhere to minimize wear and tear on the tees. If you must use the tees for the Night Golf event, make sure there is divot mix for the players to use.
? Get the maintenance staff out early! ? The morning after your Night Golf event, send someone out with a divot mix bucket (make sure they are labeled if you use different types of grass on your tees than you do in your fairway). Have the staff cover each hole you played the previous night ? make sure that they have trash bags and ball mark repair tools for the greens.

Store Your Pool Toys and Help Increase Swimming Pool Safety
by: Gregory Fort
Excessive toy clutter upon a swimming pool deck or the areas around a built-in pool can lead to falls and serious injuries. Keeping the swimming deck areas clear will help reduce the risk of unnecessary falls. Children tend to pull out all of the pool toys then swap their preferences all day long. Moms and dads, doubling as life guards, have a constant job described as toy sorter.
Wooden decks adjacent swimming pools are notorious for being slippery. With children getting in and out constantly, the pool deck can quickly become an ice skating rink. If the deck is also cluttered with multiple rafts, noodles, beach balls, ducks and float rings, the chance of slipping on the deck increases.
Many people choose to throw their toys over the side of the pool into the yard. The toys may be out of the way, but when the kids use them again, they bring grass and dirt back into the pool. An alternative to throwing the toys overboard is to somehow neatly store them near the swimming area.

How to Create A Music Box, Part I
by: Monique Hawkins
Everyday we are bombarded with noise. From the roar of a jet overhead to car horns honking while we sit in a traffic jam, we live in a world of noise and stress. How crucial it is, then, to find an outlet to relax our bodies and minds. For some, this might mean listening to the delicate and dreamy sounds of an inlaid music box, enjoying the notes from a gorgeous musical jewelry box, or relaxing while a small twirling ballerina spins in a ballerina music box. For others, it might mean creating their own special music box. When it comes to making a music box, there are certain considerations that need to be thought through. These are choosing a title for the music box, assessing one’s creative ability, and choosing a musical movement.
Music Box Title
Choosing a title for a music box is simple. One can use the songs that were used for the musical movement or just choose a favorite song that will go along with the music box’s theme. There is no right or wrong way for this; just choose a title that you love.
Your Putter Fitted Perfectly in 5 Easy Steps
February 25, 2008
Ever wonder why putting is so difficult for you? Want to know how to fix it? I’ll bet you’re using improperly fitted equipment without realizing it? If so, consider yourself lucky. We’ve come to save your putting game. These 5 key points will get you that perfectly fitted putter so you can shave off all those unwanted strokes on the greens. Let’s learn how.
The First Key:
A quality fitting can’t be done without you knowing your proper measurements. To calculate your best putter length you must base it on your height. You will do what’s known as a wrist-to-floor measurement. Measure form the inside of your wrist at the top of your hand all the way down to the floor. Keep this measurement ready for future reference.
The Second Key:
Figure out what your posture is when you’re putting. Do you stand more upright like a Vijay Singh? If so you will be better suited to longer putters that have more upright angles. Or do you have more of a crouched posture like the great Jack Nicklaus? If you fall into this category you will need a shorter putter that has flatter angles with it.

Fitness Equipment Basics
by: John Mac
Fitness equipment can be split into 2 basic areas, first there is aerobic or cardio fitness equipment which is designed to give you a fitness workout to burn off calories & loose weight. Secondly there is strength/muscular fitness equipment which is designed to tone, or increase in size, your bodies muscles.
Most fitness equipment that you would expect to find in your local gym or fitness centre can now be purchased for home use depending upon the space you have available & the type of fitness equipment you require.
For aerobic fitness equipment you should consider a treadmill, an exercise bike or a rowing machine.
Treadmills are popular because you can walk, jog or run on them making them an ideal piece of fitness equipment for the beginner right through to professional athletes, being suitable for all levels of fitness. Make sure you choose one with a wide belt that is long enough for your stride. If you jog or run a lot then you should consider a model with cushioning between the belt and treadmill bed to lesson the impact on your joints.

Hot Birds need a Bird Bath
by: John Marcus
Bird watching is a fantastic hobby suitable for individuals of all ages. In addition to enjoying the great outdoors and gaining an appreciation for nature, bird watching is a hobby that can be shared with friends and family. Many bird watchers find themselves healthier due to their time outside scanning the skies for that ultra-rare bird. If you are interested in beginning bird watching as a hobby, consider the following tips to get your started and on the right track.
1.) Get a book.
Most bird watchers are not experts on our fine feathered friends from the start. Instead of thinking, a bird is a bird is a bird, think again! Birds are a fabulous species that are as diverse as any other set of creatures on this earth. Furthermore, most birds are readily identified by their coloration, so choose a book that has many color pictures suitable for matching the bird in the sky with the correct one in the book. Bird books are available for all different types of bird watchers, from children to adults interested in learning more about birds that the color of their feathers. Also, consider choosing a book with information about bird tracks, since you will be able to determine what types of birds are in the area by the tracks they make.
Making Your Program Golf Specific
February 23, 2008
“Golf-Specific” means different things to different people. One of the things I have learned from my education and experience in working with elite trainers and golfers is that in order to improve someone’s performance you must know where their strengths and weaknesses currently exist. This is, of course, the real value of assessments. If you look at the requirements of the golf swing itself, a golfer needs adequate spinal rotation, hip rotation, shoulder rotation, core engagement, some degree of cardiovascular endurance, and some degree of strength and stability.
You don’t need to be a bodybuilder or powerlifter for golf, just enough strength to produce a powerful swing. So, in evaluating a golfer you simply look at the rotational ability of the joints that most affect the golf swing. It is also helpful to look at a golfer’s current level of strength and stability or muscular imbalances which have the potential to create injury.
But then what? Well, if you are assessing a golfer who always complains about lack of distance and you find out they have very limited spinal rotation then you just found out a potential reason “why.” If a golfer lacks adequate spinal rotation, then its virtually impossible to produce respectable distance because you are not able to move your body freely through this motion, at least without finding another way to compensate in the body like excessive hip rotation or other variation.
