A Valuable Golf Exercise In Your Office When You Have A Moment

May 31, 2008

Golf exercise is not necessarily in a gym. Getting creative with what you have can make all the difference and have a very positive impact on your game.

Even extremely busy executives can get 15 seconds at a time while seated at their computer or work station in the office, for some golf exercise.

There are actually many different stretch golf exercises you can get done in your office, here is one.

I call it the seated twist golf exercise. Sit upright in your chair with your chest high and back straight. Reach behind you with one arm, which will rotate your upper body. While staying erect, twist as far as you can go and hold. You can then twist the other way and repeat.

Go both sides 2-3 times, holding for 10 seconds. This is a very effective golf exercise for eliminating or even reducing back pain and at the same time tremendously improving your backswing and follow through range of motions. The result will be a much better swing, higher club head speed and much more distance.

A Casual Bystander’s View of Sports

A Casual Bystander’s View of Sports
 by: Gene Simmons

I’ve really never been a sports-minded person. Sure, I participated in a bit of basket shootin’ and hittin’ the ball around when I was in grade school but that’s as far as it ever went. The reason may have had something to do with the size of rural school where I attended grades one through eight. I guess when there is a total student population of 14 - yes, in all grades, girls included - it’s a little difficult to completely grasp the “team sports” concept.

High school was a different story though. Growing up in sports-minded Nebraska, I certainly had every opportunity to get involved in football, or even basketball or track for that matter. So why didn’t I? Well, probably because I was really (and I mean REALLY!) a shy farm boy with the self-confidence of a grape. I took me a lot of years to wiggle my way out of that hole and truthfully, depending on the situation, I still have my moments.

Tapering for a Triathlon

Tapering for a Triathlon
 by: Kevin Koskella

You may have been training for weeks or months already, but now it is 2 weeks before your race and it’s time to think about resting. Many triathletes find this more difficult than swimming 5,000 yards, biking the hills, or running a half marathon!

Here are some things to keep in mind if you are beginning your taper or rest period before your race.

1. Do longer warmups and warmdowns. You can keep your distance up, but start to add more to the beginning and end portion of your workout. This ‘active rest’ will assure that you are well rested for your race but not out of shape.

2. Avoid big meals and sugar. Tapering is an adjustment for your body, and your immune system may not be as strong during this time. Big meals and carbohydrates like sugar will wear your immune system and leave you susceptible to colds and flus. Keep in mind that as your workout intensity decreases, you must decrease calorie intake accordingly.

How To Improve Your Golf Swing Timing

May 29, 2008

Golf swing timing is a key factor in being able to repeat a mechanically sound swing for 18 holes. In fact it is true to say that correct timing is everything. This is the main reason why golfers need to concentrate when taking a shot.

Golf swing timing has to do with the way the golfer controls their body and swiftly gets his muscles and body organs to swiftly respond to commands from his brain. Actually the identical situation any athlete or performer finds themselves in.

Interestingly enough many athletes and performers have got exercise sessions worked into their program where they condition their bodies to maintain the highest levels of performance. Yet golf swing timing is a situation that is as demanding and in many cases more so, than the situation faced by many athletes. Still many amateur golfers expect their body and muscles to respond without any exercise or muscle conditioning in preparation for their golf swing timing.

Of course it does not happen and this is the reason why many amateur golfers continue to struggle with their golf game, hardly improving over a number of years. Most professionals on the other hand, take a lot of time and care to condition their bodies and muscles for the perfect golf swing timing. The results always show.

Tips To Know The Types Of Fishing Rod To Acquire
 by: Travis Clemens

Fishing rod holders take the inconvenience out of fishing for a variety of reasons. For one, it is a convenient storage device especially when one is in a kayak. Rather than holding the paddle in between the legs while fishing, a fishing rod holder stores the rod in place therefore enabling anyone to carry multiple rods or (if one insists so) carry multiple paddles. It also makes trolling easy as a holder keeps the fishing rod in place as one travels to a number of fishing spots. Also, when unhooking a caught fish, rod holders keep the rod secure. More importantly, they help one catch more fish at the same time enabling a kayak look versatile and extremely well-designed.

Here are some tips that could prove helpful in order to determine the types of fishing rods one should purchase.

To attach or to not attach

There are basically two types of fishing rod holders, one that could be attached to the exterior of the kayak and one that is put in the flush. Both have different functions and both work well accordingly. The choice all depends on what one prefers to use and how.

Hawaii Fishing Tips
 by: Travis Clemens

The opportunity to be on a boat ready to catch fish, enjoying the beautiful scenery, and the camaraderie with the crew of the boat is the best experience in fishing you can find. Here are some helpful tips to enjoy fishing.

1. Choose a boat wisely. A boat that meets your needs and your goal on what to do with the fish you catch are the things to consider when choosing a boat for Hawaii Fishing Trips.

2. Choose the appropriate Island in Hawaii that meets your desired duration of the Fishing trip. For shorter trips, choose an Island in Hawaii that has deep water right near shore. These islands are ideal for shorter trips in fishing where catching fish won’t take long.

3. Consider bringing tackle, bait, ice and fresh water. Confirm with the boat company if they will provide these items. Tackle is a set of pulleys and ropes assembled to facilitate the mechanisms for hoisting and pulling. Bait is for luring the fish. Ice is for keeping the catch fish fresh during the trip. Fresh water is for thirst quencher during the fishing trip.

Improve Your Golf Swing Fundamentals And Watch Your Game Transform

May 26, 2008

Most golfers are aware that by focusing on the golf swing fundamentals, one by one, they stand the best chance of dramatically improving their game. This is because the golf swing fundamentals make up the golf swing which is at the heart of the game of golf.

Golf swing fundamentals are to be found in the three segments of a proper golf swing which are the backswing, the downswing and thirdly the impact and follow through.

The backswing is one of the important golf swing fundamentals because every shot begins here. If the backswing falls short, so will the resulting hit. At this stage, focus should be placed equally on body rotation and club and arm extension.

Moving to the downswing as another golf swing fundamental, this movement actually starts in the legs and the hips, rather than the arm. There should be a clear transfer of body weight from back to front with the knees, thighs and hips all beginning to move forward. This should be the correct movement in every proper golf swing.

The impact and follow through are the golf swing fundamentals that complete the entire swing. At impact the body weight should be on the outside of the forward heel and the inside of the rear foot.

A Brief History of Wado ryu Karate - Part I of III
 by: Owen Johnston

Hironori Ohtsuka founded Wado-Ryu, the 1st Japanese form of Karate in 1938. It was the result of many years of training in various forms of Japanese Jiu Jitsu and Okinawan Karate, as well as Aikido, developed into a single fluid, powerful, yet peaceful martial art. Wado-Ryu Karate is the Way of Peace and Harmony, and is practiced as a way of life by millions of people worldwide.

For such a relatively new and widely practiced martial art, details of its origin are either scarce or hotly debated. There is also plenty of speculation and rumor. I will give as factual an outline of the history as I am able. Also, I apologize beforehand if it seems that any part of this history is vague, which is a result of the lack of facts pertaining to that particular section. For a more comprehensive study of Karate, Wado-Ryu, and Ohtsuka-sensei, please refer to my endnotes.

A Bad Golfer & Common Mistake You Will Find Every Time

May 24, 2008

Fascinatingly enough a bad golfer is consistent enough with his/her consistent mistakes and poor play, that it promotes even more bad golf and frustration.

Actually a bad golfer ignores or is unaware of what has to be the single most important aspect of the golf swing. This is the setup or positioning before the swing.

It does not matter how good your swing is and how much correct technique you have used. If you do not pay attention to your swing, you are a bad golfer and it will clearly show when you have hit the ball.

All great golfers are aware of how important the setup is and you can be sure that many bad golfers are not. If you setup correctly for a shot, chances are extremely high that you will hit a good shot. So important is your setup that even if you swing poorly in a good setup position, you are bound to at least hit a reasonable shot.

A good setup will enable you achieve a good posture and the sort of balance that will help you maintain balance and inevitably control throughout the shot.
