Exercise For A Golfer - Dont Fear it

September 30, 2008

Exercise for a golfer is widely used. Despite the success many professionals have enjoyed, and continue to enjoy in their game, mainly because of golf-specific exercises, many amateur golfers still shun any golf specific exercises.

Even when it is rather obvious that leading names in the game like the legendary Tiger Woods heavily rely on staying in good shape for the game by having personal trainers and by being involved in golf specific exercises.

Bt far the main reason why most still fear and avoid exercise for golfers is the belief that they will develop muscles. Actually lifting weights are a very effective way of toning the golf-specific muscles for the game, by strengthening them. Strength training using weights will never increase the size of your muscles.

Nobody would loathe building big muscles more than most lady golfers. Yet many of them have dramatically improved their games by increasing their strength through golf-specific weight training.

Actually you need to be in the gym several hours a day lifting very heavy weights to develop a weight-lifters’ muscles. The weight-lifting exercise regime for golf involves lifting lighter weights many more times over a very short period of time compared to a weightlifter looking for muscles with heavier weights lifted fewer times at a time but for longer hours daily.

Sleeping Bag Insulations and their Benefits
 by: Jimmy Zambrano

Sleeping bags are sold in different styles (mummy, rectangular, hooded, and kids’ sleeping bags), for varying temperatures (extreme weather, cold weather, three season, and warm weather sleeping bags), and with many different insulations (synthetic fibers and down fill). Sleeping bag insulations should be considered when purchasing your next bag. Here are some commonly used insulations and their benefits.

Slumberloft HQ™

is a synthetic fiber composed of a 50% hollow core polyester fiber joined with a 50% solid core polyester fiber. This combination offers great warmth and loft. Examples of sleeping bags with Slumberloft HQ are: Slumberjack - Latitude, Long -20F/-29C and Slumberjack - Lil’ Timber, Kids Bag +10F/-12C.

DuPont Hollofil® 808

is a synthetic fiber. Its hollow core is designed to trap more air for greater warmth and loft. Examples of sleeping bags with this insulation are: Coleman - Crescent +15F/-9C and Coleman - Mountain Lodge, King -5F/-21C.

DuPont Hollofil® II

An example of a sleeping bag with this insulation is: Coleman Exponent - Northbound +0F/-18C.

World Series of Poker: History
 by: Tim McGinty

When you hear the term, the World Series of Poker, most people today think about ESPN coverage and thousands of people all laying down $10,000 to become the next poker millionaire. The top players are cult icons and have turned their fame into small fortunes, hocking chip sets, instructional videos, books, video games, and websites. But it hasn’t always been that way.

The idea for the World Series began in the summer of 1949 when Nicholas “Nick the Greek” Dandolos approached Binion’s Horseshoe owner Benny Binion to set up a match between Dandolos and the legendary Texas road gambler, Johnny Moss. Binion did so with the stipulation that the game would be played in public view.

Crowds gathered at Binion’s Horseshoe to watch this marathon contest that lasted five months with breaks only for sleep. Moss ultimately won an estimated $2 million. When “The Greek” lost his last pot, he arose from his chair, bowed slightly, and uttered the now-famous words, “Mr. Moss, I have to let you go.” Binion, always a promoter at heart, noted that the public had gathered outside the casino each day to watch the game with the fervor of dedicated sports fans, and he was amazed at the attention the event had attracted.

Before Purchasing A Gift For A Golfer…Ask Yourself These 3 Questions

September 27, 2008

It should be rather clear to everybody that the gift a golfer will ordinarily appreciate the most, is the one that improves their game. Most golfers are constantly looking for ways to improve on their game. It usually dominates their every thought when they are on the course and many times when they are off it.

Before selecting a gift for a golfer, it is useful to ask yourself the following 3 questions and to get adequate answers for them. Remember that this is a task that is much more complicated than it may seem at first sight.

A) What is their particular golf weakness?

What is the particular weakness of the golfer who you are seeking a gift for? The fact that they have a problem with their golf swing is not goof enough. What particular aspect of the swing? Do they tend to slice the ball or does their swing weakness have to do with a nagging back problem that doctors do not seem able to deal with? This is very important information that you should have long before you even start considering the gift options for a golfer.

B) What are they using currently?

8 Technical Aspects of the Martial Arts
 by: Steven Gregoire

In the past Japanese samurai, Mongolian horsemen, Manchu bannermen, and European knights spent a lifetime learning the highly complex art of fighting. It took many years of discipline to master the techniques of unarmed fighting and fighting with weapons, and training was honed by close-quarters combat that resulted in real fatalities. Although soldiers continue to be trained in these arts today, given the advanced technology of modern warfare they are less likely to engage in unarmed fighting. Unarmed fighting has become more of a civilian sport, and the techniques practiced are less lethal. Many practitioners study only a limited number of fighting techniques within a single system. Others like to gain diverse skills, and most martial arts schools include the study of techniques from different systems. In some systems, advanced study is not offered until a practitioner has been studying and training for many years and gained a certain level of skill.

Types and features of fighting include: long- and short-range unarmed fighting, armed fighting, grappling, the use of pressure points, self-cultivation, single- and multiple-opponent fighting, fighting without injuring the opponent, and avoidance of fighting.

Pellet Stoves: The Alternative
 by: Michael Jason

If you have had enough of whopping energy consumption bills due to use of electronic heating devices, its time you switch to pellet stoves. Pellets stoves refer to stoves that use pellets as a fuel. Pellets are very cost effective and are quite efficient as compared to the electronic devices used for the heating purposes.

Pellet stoves are effective home heaters. A pellet stove is just like a wood stove; the only difference is that it is automated.

A pellet stove is quite simple to use. You are just required to add pellets to the hopper of the stove and thereby set the desired heat output. The stove will automatically determine the optimum amount of air for combustion. Most pellet stoves come with a fan to circulate air via heat exchanger. Some stoves rely on radiant heat delivery process.

What is Pellet Fuel?

Pellets are biomass products, made-up of wood paste or sawdust. Pellets acts as a renewable and clean burning fuels. More than 600,000 thousand people in North America use wood pellets for heat. These pellets are used in fireplace inserts, furnaces and freestanding stoves. The pellet fuels turn waste materials into sources of energy.

Wrong Team Favored This Weekend
 by: Sean Lavin

This coming weekend, there is a glaring mistake. In general, the guys who set the lines are accurate. Lines usually only move a point or so all week long. This week, the guys set the Cincinnati Bengals as 1 point favorites against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Bets have poured in and now, the Steelers are favored by 3.

The bookied had it right, and now, a rare occurrence has occurred. The wrong team is favored and favored significantly. Cincinnati +3 is a gift and all experienced sharp bettors will grab Cinci +3 -110 or Cinci +3.5 -130 (Slightly better)

Both teams are 11-5. A quick look at the season stats show that Cinci is a slightly better passing team and Pittsburgh is a slightly better rushing team. Both have created and allowed similar number of yards. In their two games this season, the Steelers and the Bengals each won one.

But here are the intangibles:

1. Pittsburgh won their right into the playoffs on the last Sunday of the season. Pittsburgh had to play all their starters right up until the last minute of the last game. Cincinnati has had nothing to play for, for the past two weeks. Cinci’s starters have been sitting on the bench resting and recovering from any minor injuries.
