Javelina - Little Pigs With A ‘Big Fight’
 by: Peter Jaeckle

Hunting Collared Peccary in the Western States

While hunting for wild boar is at a slower pace during rainy winter months in

California, a ‘little pig’ offers good hunting opportunities in neighboring

States. The Javelina or Collared Peccary is the pig hunter’s “big” game in

Arizona. Javelina also occur in Texas where they are quite numerous and in New

Mexico. They are South American natives that have slowly migrated north.

Javelina occur widely in Arizona but are not found statewide. They are most

numerous in the southeastern corner of the State, southeast of Tucson. You need

to apply for a hunting permit in December, drawings will take place in January

and hunting takes place in February. Applications must specify hunt numbers.

Permits are classified as HAM (handgun, archery and muzzle loader) and

permit-hunting. Non-residents pay about $ 114.00 for a non-resident license and

a $ 68.00 Javelina permit fee.

Deadlines for permit/tag applications close generally in late of the year.

Good news is that two Apache Tribes sell Javelina permits over

How to Practice Your Golf Game in the Winter

How to Practice Your Golf Game in the Winter
 by: Paul Wilson

Now that the cold weather is upon us, it doesn’t mean that you should hang up the clubs. Sure, you may not be able to play very often but it doesn’t mean that you can’t keep working on your game. Here are a few tips so you don’t have to re-learn the game once the spring rolls around.

Grip

A great swing starts with a great grip. Learning the proper neutral grip can be very uncomfortable. The easiest way to work on it is while your watching your favorite TV show. Before the show starts, take a practice club (preferably with a training grip on it) and place your hands on in perfect position. While you are watching, you will be concentrating more on the TV show than your grip. As a commercial comes on, take your grip off. Once the show starts again, re-place your hands on the club again. Because you are watching TV, you won’t be thinking about how uncomfortable it is to learn the proper grip. If you keep doing this regularly throughout the winter, you will have the proper neutral grip mastered as the new season rolls around.

What You Can Learn from Tiger’s Swing

What You Can Learn from Tiger’s Swing
 by: Paul Wilson

In watching the PGA Championship this year, I marveled at how Tiger came from nowhere and finished in 3rd place at 2 under par (2 shots off of the lead). If Phil Mickelson hadn’t hung on, this performance of Tiger’s could have tied or even won the championship. It’s Tiger’s unbelievable perseverance that’s lead me to write this tip.

Tiger’s Perseverance

Have you also noticed that just when you think Tiger is totally out of it, he’s back in it? Do you ever wonder why this is? It’s because Tiger never gives up. He knows that anything could happen in this game. He knows the pressure that is associated with this game and the pressure that is put on the other players who are in the lead. Tiger can withstand this pressure, whereas, other pros cannot. He knows that in major tournaments, the field will usually come back to him. So if he can grind away and just get a couple of shots back on the field he’s right back in the hunt. If Tiger was someone who gave up when he was playing poorly, he wouldn’t consistently be in the top ten in the majority of tournaments he plays in.

That Fat Tricky Hobbit!

That Fat Tricky Hobbit!
 by: Nicolas Fradet

Just like Gollum can’t live without the ring, some poker players can’t sit down at a poker table without trying to be tricky. If Sam can tell that Gollum is not being fully truthful in his actions, in this mighty quest of the ring, then Gollum’s master plan can fail. If your opponents can tell you are not being fully truthful in your actions, then your master plan can fail.

While deceiving your opponents is surely a step in the right direction towards poker success, you should always carefully decide whether a play is really worth it. Being tricky usually means not playing in the most profitable way, so you can profit more in later plays. You sacrifice a little equity in a hand so you can be less predictable and therefore profit on your future hands. However, I believe most of the times, it is better to simply bet your hand accordingly. Your opponents might actually not give you credit for the hand you are representing and that in itself might be tricky (without losing profit).

Are You Wearing the Right Golf Shoes When You Golf?

January 26, 2009

For those of you that golf you know that golf shoes are an integral part of the game. Not only do you need the support and comfort for the 7,000 plus yards you have to walk, but you need the right foot traction and grip throughout your swing process for that good contact with the ball. The right golf shoe can make a huge difference in your game.

There are plenty of golf style shoes available in stores and online, from the likes of Nike, Reebok, Etonic, Footjoy and many more. The huge selection of shoes available provides us ? the consumer, with different options for comfort, support and a fashionable look. It all comes down to personal preference when deciding on how you want to look on the golf course in your shoes.

Every golfer has the same needs out on the golf course, which is a comfortable shoe. Remember that if you are walking the golf course you will be looking at 4 to 5 hours of being on your feet, as well as you will be walking 7,000 plus yards. So if you are not comfortable in your shoes you can count on not playing well.

The Pros Make the Golf Swing Look So Simple!

The Pros Make the Golf Swing Look So Simple!
 by: Paul Wilson

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard people say “the pros make it look so simple” or “it looks like the pros are swinging so easy, yet, they hit it a mile”. Here’s a question to all golfers out there. If the pros look like they are making this simple movement, why are you twisting up in circles and swinging out of your shoes on every shot? It makes sense to me that if the best players in the world have a simple, easy movement, you should be trying to copy what they are doing. Unfortunately, as much as you want this simple, easy swing, you can’t do it. Why? Because simple … is difficult.

Simple is Difficult?

What do I mean by simple is difficult? What I mean, is the less you move your body in golf, the harder it is. Now you’re probably thinking that this just doesn’t make sense. Everyone knows that If you were to move less it would be much easier! Well if this were the case, you would be seeing everyone with nice, compact, easy golf swings out there and I would have no reason to write this tip. Here are the reasons you don’t have a simple, easy, compact swing:

Golf Fitness Helps Generate More Speed in Your Swing!

Golf Fitness Helps Generate More Speed in Your Swing!
 by: Sean Cochran

The golfing industry speaks about clubhead speed constantly. We see advertised in the golf magazines all the time. We hear about it on the Golf Channel endlessly

Clubhead speed is more a result of what you do with the golf club than an entity of its own. A driver is not going to generate clubhead speed on its’ own! Someone has to swing it!

Clubhead speed is contingent upon swing speed. Swing speed is directly related to the person swinging the golf club. So the question to really ask is:

How Do I Develop Huge Gains in My Swing Speed?

Another term directly related to swing speed and clubhead speed is power.

More Power = More Swing Speed = More Clubhead Speed

Bottom line is we are looking to increasing the power outputs of your golf swing. This will allow for an increase in swing speed. An increase in swing speed translates to more clubhead speed.

So how do we increase the power in our golf swing?

Two aspects require tuning and development of you wish to improve the power in your golf swing.

Why in the World Do You Want to Make Your Own Golf Clubs?

January 24, 2009

A better question might be, why would you not want to build your own golf clubs. If you have shopped for a new driver lately, you know that the cost of top "brand name" clubs has skyrocketed. Are we to believe that they can make your game that much better? I would bet that you already own a driver, maybe even one with a wood head, that you can still hit to within 10-20 yards of how far you could hit a new top drawer driver.

Disregarding the above paragraph, there are 3 basic reasons for wanting to make your own golf clubs,

You want to become a golf club-maker as a hobby or as a business.

You want to own custom clubs, at a lower cost.

And my favorite, you want to experiment with new technologies, without paying the prohibitive costs for brand name products.

If you want to become a club-maker and sell your product to the public, you will need to spend some time learning the craft. Contact any of the component suppliers, most of them have the tools you will need, and instructions for fitting clubs to your customers, or yourself, and assembly instructions. Take care to produce a quality product and each club becomes a silent salesperson. Re-gripping in the off season can bring a steady supply of business, and give you the opportunity to sell those same people new clubs or just repairs of their current ones.
