Which Golf Tips should You Listen to?
by: David Ferrers
There are good golf tips and bad golf tips. The question is, “how do you decide which golf tips to listen to?”
This question has been brought home to me recently because a good friend took up golf about two years ago. He has really caught the bug and plays several times a week. He also has lessons and practices frequently. Whenever we play together he is constantly asking for tips and advice about his swing.
It is my belief that you should only give a player a golf tip if you are sure that it will fit in with the rest of his swing. I have seen far too many players lose their swings when trying to adopt a golf tip which simply does not fit in with everything else that goes on when they swing the club.
OK, I know, there are certain golf tips which are universally sound, like, “keep your head still.” But equally there are plenty of other golf tips that can be ruinous even when given with the best of intentions.
Fire da Bum!
September 29, 2009
In the early 50s, long before we were desensitized by today’s special effects, there was a movie called “The Thing”. This black and white flicker took place on the North Pole. Some explorers/scientists found a frozen man (monster) while wandering around outside doing what explorer/scientists do.
They dug up the dude and hauled him inside to preserve him for later study. He was stored in a room where the temp was below freezing. Some jerk accidentally turned up the thermostat and the creature came to life!!! “The Thing” terrorized the citizenry of the North Pole and scared the hell out of me. I could not get “The Thing” out of my mind. I slept with the lights on until just recently.
The first time I broke 80, I was 15 years old…shot 77. This was in Colorado, in the fall. During the winter months, I decided to read a golf instruction book, as it was tough to play in 4 feet of snow. There was a very popular book out at the time that told you EVERYTHING to think of in the golf swing. Many pages were devoted to the right knee, for example. I read the book several times and couldn’t wait for the snow to melt. To my horror, I couldn’t break 90. I was thinking of a bazillion things and could NOT get all this JUNK out of my mind. Just like…You guessed it.. “THE THING.”

Playing the Executive 9 Golf Course with Discount Golf Clubs
by: Kevin T. Fairbanks
Summary:
I am an avid golfer, but only golf at most once a week. I consider myself a bogey to par golfer. I use discount golf clubs including my golf driver, golf woods, golf irons, and golf putter. This article describes my golfing exploits on a 9 hole par 30 course recently.
Article:
I haven’t played a round of golf in about 2 or 3 weeks. I wanted to see how my swing was compared to how I was playing golf earlier. I used discount golf clubs and am very pleased with their performance. I would guess that I am a bogey to par golfer. I have never figured out what my handicap is or even how to figure it. I usually try to play by the golf rules that I know, but sometimes I even stray from those.
Well, as I mentioned, since I haven’t played for so long, I selected an Executive 9 hole course that is a par 30. I like playing from the back tees. That way I get my money’s worth when playing golf. This particular course has a length of 1773 yards from those back tees.
Choosing The Right Self Defense Class

Choosing The Right Self Defense Class
by: Rob Goyette
You just had a close call - you were waiting for the bus after staying at work late. The neighborhood gets a little rough after hours and a suspicious character approached you. Before things could escalate, a handful of people joined you at the stop. Still, the situation was enough for you to seriously consider how you would react to being attacked. Is it time for self-defense classes? It could be.
Self-defense classes are a common way for people to learn how to handle a situation where they become a victim to violence of one sort or another. There are several different types of self-defense classes available - from martial arts to simple self-defense classes, and it can be confusing trying to choose the one that is right for you.
Here are a few tips for you, to help choose a self-defense class that will deliver the knowledge you need to protect yourself:
- Investigate the different programs - If you don’t have the time to spend learning a martial arts discipline, then maybe a weekend course that offers you techniques and other escape strategies will work for you. You don’t necessarily need to physically defeat an opponent - you merely need to provide yourself an opportunity to escape safely.
A Good Swing Starts with a Strong Base of Support
September 26, 2009
A good golf swing starts with a strong base of support (hips, pelvis and lumbar spine). A highly conditioned base of support will provide stability throughout the swing and allow forces to be effectively transferred from the legs through the hips to the upper body to produce optimal power and control. A strong base helps protect the joints and other supporting tissues against the strong compression, shear and torsion forces that occur during the golf swing. Unfortunately, there are a number of factors that predispose the golfer to developing poor postural patterns and muscle imbalance that result in a weak base of support.
For much of our young lives we were stuck sitting in school hunched over our desk. We finish school and begin our careers. Many of us now find ourselves spending excessive time in our cars or sitting in poorly designed chairs hunched in front of a computer. Over time we are conditioned to have tight hip flexors and a lazy posture. Poor posture and muscle imbalance decrease musculoskeletal efficiency and disrupt communication within the neuromuscular system. Short tight muscles display a lower activation threshold, meaning they fire at times when they should be less active or inactive. Over activation of dominant muscles leads to decreased neural control to their opposing muscles. Simply stated, "when one muscle becomes tight and overactive its opposing muscle becomes loose and lazy." Tight dominant hip flexors create weak and lazy hip extensors (gluteals)and set off a chain reaction of dysfunction.

Better Golf Solutions Start With One Simple Approach
by: Mike Pedersen
Better golf solutions is a mystery for the average golfer. Finding the magic bullet that’s going to cure your game overnight isn’t going to happen. In looking for better golf solutions, you’ve got to think about what’s the main reason you’re not making a sound, repeatable golf swing that generates power and accuracy?
Common approaches to better golf solutions are taking more lessons; buying new golf equipment that will hopefully make up for your swing faults (such as offset/oversized drivers and irons); purchasing training aids that promise the world, but end up in your garage gathering dust or being sold on ebay; or going to the range with a new level of practice commitment.
The six million dollar question! Did it help? Are you happy with your results?
If the answer is yescongratulations on your success! If the answer is no, than what in the world is left? You’ve done everything right?
I want you to think real hard for a second.
What one thing is critical in swinging a club, hitting the ball square and long, and producing results?
YOU!

Getting Ready To Go Camping
by: Ranger Bob
So you want to take your kids camping just like you did as a child with your parents of grandma or grandpa. Opps the camp ground they took you to is now condos on the lake .
Let assume you are new to camping but you have some experience as a child. You will need to become familiar with camping gear. If you have a friend that camps a lot you can go with them to learn the basics.
Ah go with a friend and show him he is smarter then me not a chance. For I would never hear the end of it.
The first thing you will need is some type of shelter for you and the kids. Then you will need some thing to sleep in a sleeping bag and something to cook with. Pots and pans portable barbecue hey I know how to use that. Already you are on the road to your first camping trip.
What Gear Do I Need?
Balance Your Checkbook and Golf Swing
September 24, 2009
We all search for it. Balance in our daily lives. Balance while riding a bike. Politicians are always debating a balanced budget in Washington, and most of us could use a little balance in our checkbooks. Balance is a term used in golf quite often as well. It’s a "buzzword" and almost a cliché when it comes to the golf swing. I am sure you have heard numerous times from swing coaches that "you have to stay balanced when swinging your club." Others phrases that I hear when we talk about golf and balance are the following: "When it comes to a sand shot, dig your feet into the stand so you can stay balanced," "If the ball is on an uphill lie and above your feet, make sure you swing through the ball, and stayed balanced," and "Stay balanced when hitting the driver and get to the finish position in perfect balance." The list could go on and on, and I am sure all of you could probably add to the short list above.

What Is A Good Weight For Poker Chips?
by: Johnny Hand
I have been playing poker since my college days. I went to a small school in western Massachusetts. The funny thing is back in those days we would use anything as poker chips. It was not uncommon for us to scrape our pennies together or even break open a bag of potatoes chips that we heisted from the dorm room across the hall to use as our poker chips. Well since then I have matured and in this article I will talk about 13.5g poker chips.
I highly recommend using 13.5g poker chips.13.5g poker chips are the heaviest chips available on the poker market today and are typically of the highest quality grade. These poker chips feel like casino quality chips because they usually are casino quality and are a ton of fun to play with. In fact, these chips are usually better then casino quality poker chips. Think about it a little. The companies that produce these chips have stiff competition and casinos would not pay that much money for the quality of the chips we get on the market! A typical casino uses the 11.5 gram chips that are 39mm in diameter.

Salmon Fishing
by: Sammy Salmon
Where to fish for salmon or the Chinook or the king salmon. The pacific salmon range from California to Alaska. These anadromous species can be found in most pacific coastal waters, streams and rivers that have a good flow of water and temperature as well as a suitable habitat for going up to spawn. You will find that they may be as many as three spawns per year, spring ,summer, fall.
The average size of the Chinook can be from 16 to 20 lb. but you will see larger fish up to 55 lb. taken from the remote areas along the pacific coast .From BC Alaska you can catch the largest or the Chinook. Fish up to 65 lb. which are common have been taken from the coastal areas.
The Chinook will return to the river in which they spawned from at the age of 2 to 7 years old. The salmon will travel over 7000 miles at sea to return to its spawning grounds. One of the longest river spawns is the 2000 miles battle up the Yukon River located in the state of Alaska.
