Why Soft Spikes Are Hot and Metal Spikes Not
by: John Bolt
Who Needs Golf Spikes?
Golf spikes are found on the bottom of the players shoes. They are mainly used to help keep the player stable during their golf swing. They also aid in the prevention of slipping or moving during the swing. They also help the golfer get a good grip in the turf, gravel, or sand.
Originally the spikes on the players shoes where made of steel or other metal materials that were very strong and durable. Typically there are between 8 and 12 spikes on each shoe depending on the different manufactures. The spikes are positioned in set out patterns on the soles of the golf shoes to encourage traction.
Recently metal spikes were changed to what is known as soft spikes. These new spikes are made from highly durable types of plastic that have a number of smaller spikes instead of one big one.
Why the Change?
First of all, the metal spikes are longer than the soft plastic spikes and therefore dig deeper into the turf. This caused problems on the greens because they became very chewed or torn up each day. This wasn’t fair to the other players who had to put on them as they became very bumpy and uneven.
How To Find A Golf Fitness Routine That You Can Stick To
November 30, 2009
Most people know that the golf fitness routine that you can stick to and be consistent with is the one that is best for you and will end up being the most effective.
This rule applies to all fitness routines and not just golf fitness routines.
The problem with any fitness routine that you are not able to stick with is that even if it has beneficial effects, they will not last long as you will quickly sink back to your earlier situation where you were not involved in any exercises.
The good news is that a genuine golf fitness routine from a good golf exercise expert will be easy to stick with for several reasons.
Good golf exercise experts realize that most amateur golfers hardly have enough time to play the game, let alone time to go into the gym for a golf fitness routine.
The result is that the better golf fitness routines will include some exercises that can be done in the comfort of the home or even in the office when you have a few moments to spare. Some can even be done right there at your work station while you are still seated at your chair.
Caddie Tips For The Beginner

Caddie Tips For The Beginner
by: George Gabriel
Caddying for a golfer is not a lot of work, and could be quite enjoyable, especially if you hook up with a good golfer. Like the old saying goes. Watch and learn. There are 8 main job tasks that a caddie must do. We will try and take a look at them briefly.
Carrying golf clubs
This task could very well be the toughest of the eight, especially if the golf bag is heavy. Knowledge is not a factor hears, but carrying them properly is. Try resting the golf bag on the small of your back, may be the most comfortable position. Adjust the strap of the bag to accomplish this position. When you carry a golfer’s clubs, you should hold the irons steady with your hand. Try to prevent them from clanging together by placing your wrist at the edge top of the bag and reaching over them with the palm of your hand.
Placing the golf bag down around greens, fairways, and tee boxes, should be done gently. By doing this routinely, will prevent noise of the clubs around golf greens, tee boxes, and other players. Do not drop clubs.

The Unnamed Pickerel - Hindsight is still 20/20
by: Joseph J. Breunig 3rd
During my college days at the University of Southern Maine, one of my favorite reference manuals was Bartlett’s collection of quotations. It spanned a variety of topics, containing quotes of numerous people from all levels of society. I regularly used this resource to appropriately add colorful thoughts to my writing assignments. Since developing the Bunganut Lake Online website, I have found that even more interesting citations have made their way onto the internet. One of my favorite quotations is from Niccolo Machiavelli. Around 1505 he wrote:
… because how one lives is so far distant from how one ought to live, that he who neglects what is done for what ought to be done, sooner effects his ruin rather than his preservation…
Had I learned this valuable lesson prior to my childhood encounter with the “Unnamed Pickerel”, the final outcome would have been significantly different. Here’s my story of the fish that got away - hope you enjoy it!
What Can A Golf Exercise Routine Do For Those Who Are Happy With Their Game
November 27, 2009
Can a golf exercise routine be useful to a golfer who is happy with the current quality of their game?
You bet it can. While there are many useful benefits of a golf exercise routine to a person’s game even when they are happy with their current form, exercises have many other benefits that a golfer can enjoy and benefit from.
For example, lower back pains are fairly common on the course. And so is fatigue hence you will see some golfers form deteriorate as the game proceeds.
They are simply getting more and more tired. The more tired they get, the worse their game gets because they even start to lose concentration at critical moments.
Did you know that just a single exercise within a good golf exercise routine can greatly strengthen your back to the extent where you will be able to play 18 holes without breaking a sweat? Or even hit balls the whole day without feeling that lower back pain.
This lower back pain could either be caused by strain and fatigue as the golf swing usually utilizes the lower back muscles to a great exetent.

Kenshiro Abbe Sensei 50th Celebration
by: Henry Ellis
Henry Ellis, a direct student of the legendary Budo master Kenshiro Abbe Sensei, from 1957 describes the great event at the Crystal Palace Sports Centre, London, to celebrate this great teacher and his arrival to Great Britain in 1955 and the subsequent inception of Aikido. The Bushido ZaZen International Society Annual Dinner
In February 2004 Derek Eastman and I were invited as guests at the annual dinner of The Bushido Za Zen International Society by its Chairman Mr Arnold Davies Hanshi an old student of Kenshiro Abbe Sensei and a close friend of my own good friend Bill Woods Sensei. These names alone meant that this evening was to be something special with so much history and martial arts background between us.
As we arrived we were met by Mr Clive MacDonald, a member of the Bushido ZaZen. Mr MacDonald and Mr Davies had been instrumental in putting together many of the facts to help with the protection of the true history of British Aikido during the great British Aikido Board Controversy.

Golf Strength Training Exercise Is Not Body Building
November 25, 2009
Despite many reassurances, some amateur golfers still dread golf strength training exercises.
The problem would appear to be the presence of equipment like dumb bells in this sort of strength training. Not everybody is an exercise expert and therefore many people cannot tell the difference between body building exercise and strength building exercises.
The two are very different. They are so different that the difference can be compared to the difference there is between day and night.
Body building has got no part to play in golf strength training exercises. If anything this sort of exercise routine would damage a golfer’s game rather than improve it.
One of the effects of a body building exercise program that includes nothing else is that it causes the body to lose flexibility. Flexibility is very important in golf and that is precisely the reason why stretch exercises are a part of any good and genuine golf strength training exercise program.
In body building the emphasis is on lifting increasingly heavier weights so as to get the muscles to grow in size as quickly as possible. A body building program is usually rigorous and definitely not for everybody.

Pro Football’s NFL - The Largest American Pro Football League Has Significant Rivalries
by: Larry Woods
The National Football League or the NFL is the biggest professional football league in the United States. The NFL has thirty-two teams that are based in a variety of cities across the country. Originally known as the American Professional Football Association when it was formed in 1920, the Association assumed the name “National Football League” in 1922.
At first, the most popular way people enjoyed their football was by watching their favorite college team play but the focus of the country changed in 1958. That NFL game went into overtime and captured a number of new fans who found that they enjoyed the professional football league just as much as if not more than their college football teams. Due to the rising popularity of professional football, the NFL merged with the American Football League in the 1960’s to form what is now the National Football League.

How to Keep in Shape with Exercising Gadgets
by: Ispas Marin
We’ve all seen those TV commercials featuring all sorts of exercise gadgets that will get you that buff body or that rib-like belly with minimum effort. There are even wrap-around belts that zap your midsection with electronic pulses, allowing you to slim down without even making an effort to move your own muscles. Wow! If only they worked!
But, of course, any of us who have bought one of these effort-free exercise gadgets knows that their ultimate use is as a trash can stuffer. They work about as well as miracle weight loss diets. They are expensive and worthless gadgets, not solutions to getting yourself in shape. The only way to get in shape is the old fashioned way sweaty exercise on a scheduled basis.
It’s not a bad way to go, either. I have done it for years, and this issue leads with an exercise article by Richard Blunt that I adhere to, with a few modifications. For example, I like to chop wood so I often substitute chopping wood for resistance training.
